Do not dwell on the horrors inseparable from war, but emphasize the qualities which will make such stories immortal.' This 'non-dwelling on the horrors inseparable from war' and 'emphasis on immortal stories' of war, has been a pattern well followed through the decades. A small adjustment of perspective by decision-makers, around 1918, has become custom and limits comprehensive understanding of the experiences of war - especially women's experiences in war.
